For Parents
What can parents do to
help Safe Scouting?
First, learn what we expect of our leaders. Look at the Guide to Safe Scouting.
In particular, look at our expectations for Youth Protection and
Adult Leadership.
We encourage you to take the same Youth Protection Training we
expect our leaders to take. Take it online!
Be sure your sons unit sees the video It Happened to Me (Cub Scouts)
or A Time to Tell (Boy Scouts) each year. Be there and watch the video
with your son.
Review with your child, How to
Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide. Its an insert
inside the front of every Boy Scout and Cub Scout Handbooks.

The Internet offers to us and our children a wealth of information and opportunities to
communicate with people from all over the world instantly. The Internet attracts
more users each day to enjoy the benefits that this technology offers. Many Internet
users are children, and while the Internet offers children many benefits, there is also a
lot of information on the Internet that is not suitable for children. In addition,
the Internet offers a degree of anonymity to individuals seeking access to children for
inappropriate reasons. To let our children enjoy the benefits of the Internet while
protecting them from the dangers that may be found there requires parents to participate
in their children's Internet experiences.
Communication is the key to helping your child use the Internet safely.
