Training
There are a number of different training opportunities currently available for new and experienced leaders of the Gamehaven Council. This training will provide you with the skills and tools necessary to be a productive and effective leader on an individual, troop, and council level. Training is offered for Boy Scout and Cub Scout adult volunteers and interested parents.
Why become trained?
Training
is vital to your Scouts, as well as to each unit within Gamehaven Council.
The single most important thing that a leader can do to help ensure that
a boy receives the most out of their experience with the Boy Scouts of
America is to be trained!
To become a "trained" leader you must complete four levels of training. These levels are Youth Protection Training, Fast Start, This is Scouting, and Leader Specific Training. Some of this training is offered online and some sessions may be done as classroom or group training. If the training session is offered online, a link to that training has been provided. In some cases, a user id and login will need to be created in order to take the training.
- Youth Protection Training, also known as YPT, is the first step for all new leaders and adults that have direct contact with any youth in the program. At all times, youth safety is the number one priority. At the same time, adults need to know the rules for keeping themselves safe, too. Comprehensive Youth Protection Training teaches all the do's and don'ts of working with youth. This training is available online and as a classroom style class. There are segments for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing and must be renewed every two years. YPT Online Training
- Leader Specific or Position Specific Training is based on the leaders position. These courses are taught by informed trainers who know how to engage groups and make learning fun. These courses are offered by the district or council as group training, or may be done as small groups or by personal coaching. Leader Specific Training for the Cub Scout Level is now available online.

New Policy for Youth Protection Training Effective June 1st
Youth Safety is the No. 1 concern of the Boy Scouts of America. To increase awareness
of this societal problem and to create even great barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies. These policies take effect June 1, 2010. Learn more.
