Training 2023

WHEN: July 9-14, 2023 

WHERE: Gamehaven Scout Reservation - 5015 Simpson Rd SE, Rochester, MN 

WHO:  Registered Scouts who have attained First Class rank and are 13 years old by July 9, 2023 or have finished 8th Grade. They should have mastered First Class camping skills and be ready to be away from home for a week to engage with the course.

• Completion of Introduction to Leadership Skills for troops (ILST) within the troop is strongly recommended

• Scoutmaster permission/signature is required. 

• Female Scouts are welcome! At least three female staff will be present at all times and appropriate accommodations are made for female participants. 

• We welcome Scouts from Gamehaven Council and beyond!

REGISTRATION FEE:  $250/Scout.  It is strongly encouraged that troops cover 50% ($125) of a Scout's fees, as the skills taught will benefit the troop for years to come.

EXPECTATIONS:

• NYLT is different.  We don't work on merit badges or rank advancement. There isn't a swimming beach, climbing tower, or shooting range. We spend the days working on and interacting as a Troop and Patrol, learning how to be better Scouts and people. The youth who we train come away as better leaders both in Scouting and their lives.

   NYLT transforms the lives of the youth who attend, turning leaders of others into dynamic leaders of leaders, creating the leaders of tomorrow that today so desperately demands.

​

   This is done through an intensive course where youth teach youth leadership lessons and skills of leadership covering 14 core modules, including communication, goal-setting, conflict resolution, and leading change. 

​

   It is a training course that models the ideal unit where each day is a week in the life of a unit. Youth see youth modeling the leadership tools they are teaching, and the participants get to practice and hone the skills they are learning.
